For three weeks at the turn of September and October, the exhibition “Bezpieczna Wisła – ekologicznie w przyszłość” was presented in these cities. Along with it, there were discussions, quizzes to test knowledge, and… prizes.
The main topic of the meetings was climate change, with a particular focus on “Bezpieczna Wisła” and flood protection for residents in flood-prone areas along the so-called Vistula Sandomierska. We mostly met with children and young people, but also with their parents and guardians. The “Bezpieczna Wisła” exhibition was hosted in each of the cities for a week, and additional events took place on the following Saturdays (September 23, 30, and October 7).
Although, to be honest, the weather didn’t spoil us, in Kraków at Kurlandzki Boulevard, in Kielce at the Botanical Garden Geopark, and in Tarnobrzeg at the town square and under the Tarnowski Castle in Dzików, there were people eager to talk about climate change, safety, and ecology. Children took part in contests. Both the youngest and the slightly older ones did great with the list of questions, starting from the simplest ones like “What dissolves in water?” and “Where to call in case of a flood?” to examples of flood protection and ways to retain water where it falls.
Parents and guardians also tested their knowledge, including popular actor Łukasz Nowicki. Families, school classes, runners, and walkers came. Youth played the wheel of fortune, colored pictures discovering ponds, riparian forests, and other ways to retain water. The youngest were also eager to paint their faces.
It was a lively event! But as they say, it’s better to see it for yourself.
