Safe Vistula. Ecologically into the Future. Public Information

The first conference inaugurating the project took place on May 23, 2023, in Kraków. It was attended by representatives of local government units, environmental organizations, government administration, as well as scientists and experts. This conference marked the first stage of efforts aimed at developing an action plan to minimize flood risk.

As part of the project, meetings were also held between municipal representatives and the authorities of the Małopolskie, Świętokrzyskie, and Podkarpackie voivodeships (in June and July 2023). These meetings took place at the Voivodeship Offices of the respective regions.

On May 14, 2024, the second conference was held in Sandomierz, where the results of detailed analyses on flood risk and drought threats in the project implementation area were presented, along with proposed solutions to the identified problems. The Deputy Mayor of Szczurowa Municipality participated in the event.

Invitations to all these meetings were sent to all project stakeholders, including the municipalities covered by the project: Szczurowa, Koszyce, Padew Narodowa, and Baranów Sandomierski.

On October 4, 2024, in Szczurowa, representatives of the Regional Water Management Authority (RZGW) in Kraków met with the Municipal Council, where preliminary plans for the location of a flood retention polder in the Vistula Valley were presented.

Since November 29, 2024, in line with the action schedule, widely promoted public consultations have been underway. Their purpose is to present the project’s assumptions to local governments and residents. The consultation meetings held in the potential investment areas are the first meetings with the residents. Further meetings, including individual ones, will take place as needed by local governments and residents.

Every resident has the opportunity to submit comments, requests, and proposals regarding the investment and the entire action plan.

The consultations will conclude on January 17, 2025. The consultation process was extended at the request of Szczurowa Municipality residents.

So far, consultations have taken place in Sandomierz, Szczurowa, Koszyce, and Padew Narodowa.

RZGW Kraków emphasizes that it will meet with residents according to their needs, even on an individual basis, to explain the program’s assumptions and possible solutions in case of resettlements. We believe that ensuring the flood safety of residents in the Vistula Valley is of utmost importance, especially in light of this year’s flood in the Kłodzko Valley.

Additionally, the project’s website (www.bezpiecznawisla.pl) has been active since the project’s inception and is continuously updated with information on its implementation.
